Bulbophyllum dolichoglottis – a rare miniature orchid for collectorsA special species for lovers of unusual orchids: Bulbophyllum dolichoglottis delights with its compact growth and delicate, whitish flowers with red markings. Its strikingly long, narrow lip gives this little orchid its distinctive character.Particularly charming is the contrast between its tiny stature and its surprisingly large flowers relative to the plant’s size—a small orchid with a big impact.Origin: Native to Papua New Guinea, this species grows epiphytically in humid montane forests. With a natural height of approximately 4–5 cm, it remains wonderfully compact.Care:Light: Bright, filtered light to partial shade; avoid strong direct midday sun.Temperature: warm-intermediate conditions with slightly cooler nights.Watering: Keep evenly moist without allowing the growing medium to dry out completely. Avoid waterlogging and preferably use water low in minerals.Humidity: High humidity, ideally around 60–90%, with good air circulation.Growing medium: An airy, fine-grade orchid mix with sphagnum moss. Mounted cultivation is also possible if sufficient moisture is maintained.Fertilizing: Feed regularly with a weak solution of orchid fertilizer during active growth.
Bulbophyllum Elizabeth Ann ‘Buckleberry’ – Large Specimen Mounted on a BranchThis remarkable hybrid of Bulbophyllum longissimum × Bulbophyllum rothschildianum produces spectacular flowers with elongated, purple-red patterned sepals that hang like elegant ribbons.Offered is this unique, large specimen mounted on a branch – an eye-catching addition to any orchid collection.Care: Grow in intermediate to warm conditions with filtered light, avoiding strong midday sun. Provide high humidity and gentle air circulation. As this plant is mounted, its roots dry more quickly: spray the roots thoroughly and regularly with low-mineral water, daily or several times a day in warm or dry conditions if needed. Do not allow the roots to dry out completely. Apply diluted orchid fertilizer during active growth. No pronounced dry rest is required. The plant is approximately 60 cm tall
Bulbophyllum kubahense – a very rare orchid from BorneoBulbophyllum kubahense is a very rare and exceptional botanical species from Sarawak, Borneo. Known from Kubah National Park, it grows in humid tropical lowland forest. Its elongated, leathery leaves emerge from small pseudobulbs spaced along a creeping rhizome. The short flower spikes bear numerous striking blooms, many of which open simultaneously—a special addition to any Bulbophyllum collection.Available are vigorous young plants, as pictured, which are expected to reach flowering size in approximately 24 months with good care.Care: Bulbophyllum kubahense prefers warm, humid conditions throughout the year. Choose a bright to partially shaded position with filtered light, protected from direct midday sun.Use a loose, airy yet moisture-retentive potting mix, such as fine orchid bark with sphagnum moss and perlite. A shallow, wide container provides space for the creeping rhizome. Keep the pseudobulbs on the surface of the medium rather than burying them.Water regularly to keep the medium evenly moist while avoiding waterlogging. Allow it to dry slightly between waterings, but never completely. Humidity of around 60–80%, combined with good air circulation, supports healthy growth. Feed regularly with a weak solution of orchid fertiliser during active growth. No pronounced dry rest period is required.
